Burkina Faso - March 2017

News burkina 0317

This project aiming at producing sustainably Non-Timber Forest Products, including Shea, by local populations in Burkina Faso was launched in January 2017. The objective is to improve the populations’ incomes to the benefits of the natural resources and biodiversity conservation.

Indeed, the pressure on this area is important. The expansion of intensive cotton cultivation destroys the wooded savannahs that shelter wildlife.

The destruction of these natural habitats includes the cutting of Shea trees, even though it offers women seeds that they can sustainably use, turn into butter and sell.

That is why we are working with the NGO Natudev to train local people in the production and sale of shea butter and other forest products. The local NGO also raises public awareness on the protection of the environment. This project is already giving some great results!
