Man & Nature’s implementing unit is a lean structure, with fast team mobilization, that benefits from recognized expertise. Today the unit is composed of seven individuals :


Rémi GOUIN, Chairman

An agricultural engineer by training, Remi worked as a farmer for 10 years before joining the French Development Agency. For the next 30 years, he worked on questions concerning the economic development of farmers in the South, set up and followed up on over 50 rural development projects in 25 countries.

Between 1999 and 2006, he is placed in charge of the biodiversity sector of the French Global Environment Fund, and, along with several teams, oversees over 80 projects in 30 countries.

Since 2006, his goal is to assist actions of companies, as well as of private and public foundations, which wish to get involved in the protection of Nature together with the civil society and the local communities of the South.

He is Chairman of Man & Nature since its creation in January 2011.


Cécile LACHAUX, Executive Director

Cécile holds a master degree in biology and ecology from Poitiers and Oklahoma University. Through spending 1 year abroad in Madagascar and Benin, where she was working as a project officer in various NGOs, she gained significant field experience in managing environmental issues with local communities.

Cécile joined TFT France at the beginning of 2009 and has been managing TFT’s French retail members.

She was responsible for the work TFT does with a French retailer on sustainable pulp and paper, wood and palm oil linking with buyers, factories, NGOs, local communities and has gained a strong knowledge of the economic, social and environmental issues surrounding these commodities use and trade. She spent three years and a half performing a senior role in TFT’s Indonesian country office in Jakarta. As Senior Manager Asia, Cécile managed and developed several projects and coordinated the achievements on the ground. In 2014, she joined the Global Canopy Programme as a Senior Manager, in charge of the Drivers Programme.

Now, working for Man & Nature as Executive Director.


Cécile RENIER, Projects Manager

Agricultural engineer specialised in environmental sciences, Cécile first worked as an intern for the French Development Agency, enabling her to deepen her understanding of international solidarity issues. She then worked as a volunteer for the NGO Blue Forests on mangrove rehabilitation in Indonesia, where she gained experience in natural resources management and rural development. 

After carrying out a study for the National Museum of Natural History, she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development as desk officer on biodiversity and development, strengthening her project management skills. 

Following these experiences, Cecile joined Man & Nature as project manager.


Oumie YANSSANE, Senior Projects Manager

From emergency humanitarian aid to sustainable development, and going through responsible entrepreneurship, Oumie has a "committed" career path.
From 1993 to 1997 she did several missions in East Africa and Haiti with Médecins Sans Frontières. Back in France, she worked with the association Les Amis des Enfants du Monde.

Then, in the years 2000, she launched Bébés en Vadrouille (“Babies on the road”), a company dedicated to the early childhood, selling fair trade and ecological products. The supply network was made up of non-profit associations and groups of artisans, in South America, Asia and Africa.

For 12 years, Oumie promoted products with high added value on social, environmental and economical aspects. She supported small producers in the search for commercial outlets and the continuous improvement of their production, selecting organic or recycled materials, natural dyes...

In 2013, Oumie joined GRET, where she is responsible for the management of solidarity development projects in Haiti, Senegal and Guinea. Meanwhile, she graduated from a Master 2 in Management of Quality and Sustainable Development in October 2016.

Fully endorsing Man & Nature values, Oumie joined the team in September 2017 as a senior project manager.


Gabrielle SAVIN, Senior Coordinator

Gabrielle holds a Master’s degree in « Project development in Africa », and a master’s degree in « Environmental economics and management ».

From 2005 to 2011, Gabrielle worked in Burkina Faso in different organisations. She did the management of the « Fonds social de développement » of the French Embassy, did a sustainability evaluation for a mother and child care projet of an italian NGO, and joined the protected areas program (PAPACO) of the IUCN regional office for western Africa in 2008.

With the IUCN PAPACO programme, Gabrielle did the management of the Small grant Inititive Programme, funded by the French Fund for the Environment, for the western African projects. This programme aimed at supporting innovated initiatives for biodiversity conservation and local development, held by civil society organisations. Following this exciting experience with the IUCN position, Gabrielle decided to go further in learning about environmental issues by attending a master’s degree in Environmental economics and management. From 2011 to 2017, Gabrielle came back to France and worked at Regional council of Aquitaine, in environment department, and at the headquarter office for Caritas France and Planete Urgence in Paris.

Gabrielle is strongly committed to environmental issues in general and more specifically initiatives addressing the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources exploitation for a sustainable local development. 

Based in Douala, Gabrielle joined Man and Nature as Senior Coordinator for the programme « Economy and Businesses in the service of the biodiversity ». 


Théo TOURNEBIZE, Technical Adviser


Theo Portrait

Engineer in tropical agronomy and international development at ISTOM, Théo has always been sensitive to the questions of environmental protection and rural development. He first spent a four-month mission in Nicaragua for a producers’ association, Sano y Salvo, promoting the ecological agroforestry in the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, where he was able to acquire an experience in agroecology and in management of natural resources with the local communities.

In 2013, he realised a socioeconomic impact study in Cameroon for a governmental program supporting producers’ groups, strengthening his skills in agricultural development and rural socioeconomics. 

In 2014, Théo works for the French NGO, Coeur de Forêt, in the development of the sector " moabi Oil " with a Cameroonian cooperative.

This last experience allowed him to join the team of Man & Nature as Technical Adviser in Cameroon, for the project “Economy and Businesses in the service of the Biodiversity” supported by the AFD.


Emmanuelle ROQUES, Technical Assistant

Graduated as an engineer in chemistry with a specialty in Environment Health and Safety, Emmanuelle specialized in Ecotoxicology and the protection of the Environment. In 2014, as a member of an association, she realized a mission in Burkina Faso, to raise awareness on sanitary and ecological issues caused by the plastic pollution. In 2015, she spent 5 months in the Applied Chemistry Department of the University of Johannesburg, where she conducted a research work on the adsorption of heavy metals in effluents, responsible of a highly dangerous pollution as their toxicity (carcinogenic) enters into the food chain (seaweed, fish…).

Finally, specializing in Environment Health and Safety (EHS), she acquired new skills, tools and methods in environmental management. She joined the Man & Nature team in December 2016 as a technical advisor in Cameroon for the project “Economy and Businesses in the service of the Biodiversity”, in order to help improve the quality of the finished products (oils, butter…) made from Non Timber Forest Products collected by the local population.
