Ghana - June 2018

News ghana 0618

In Ghana, the NGO NCRC carried out a research project called Ecolimits in the surroundings of the Kakum Conservation Area. They found that cocoa yields increase when shade trees are present on the farms, and crucially when protected forests are retained in the general landscape. An increased tree cover benefits the cocoa farms through an improved soil fertility and moisture, and by protecting the cocoa trees against storms.

Under our EconoBio project, we are supporting NCRC to continue working in the Kakum area and help farmers to shift towards climate-smart practices. Fostering resilience to climate change is key to safeguard the future of cocoa in Ghana.
