Madagascar - June 2019

news 060619

Helpsimus has been working since 2009 to protect 450 greater bamboo lemurs in Madagascar, which represents half the population of this "critically endangered" animal.

The Ifanadiana-Vohitrarivo road grants the access to the conservation site, but is in very poor shape and will soon be unusable if nothing is done. This road is essential for the implementation of the conservation program, but also for the surrounding villages as it breaks the isolation. It also contributes to the reinforcement of security in the area, and allows a better access to healthcare.

If the road is not renovated, its condition will weaken local communities and therefore the protection of the largest population of one of the most endangered lemurs in Madagascar.
